The first move made by the Challengers was to retain players, and they did that by keeping two star players plus an exciting youngster. Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Sarfaraz Khan were the first three players on the Challengers 2018 squad.
Kohli needs no introduction to fans, he has been a great servant to Indian cricket and during his time with the Challengers he has had a lot of success. He knows the game inside out, and is a huge player for the entire nation, everyone respects what Kohli can do with his bat and he is a player that we all get excited about.
During the players auction, the Challengers did exactly what they need to. They added even more depth to their batting, and brought in some very good bowlers to give them a huge chance of success in 2018.
Their top four is as good as any in the tournament and these four players are going to be fantastic to watch for the crowds in attendance. Joining Kohli and de Villiers will be Brendon McCullum and Quinten de Kock, two hugely experienced and exciting cricketers. The hopes of the Challengers will rest on these four players, this is their main strength and if they deliver, the Challengers will go close to winning the 2018 IPL.
The Challengers also have a good looking bowling line-up, with quick bowlers Umesh Yadav, Chris Woakes, Tim Southee and Nathan Coulter-Nile in the team. They are going to challenge hard with the new ball, and all of them are good at the death, offering variations in pace and line to keep the batsmen thinking.
With Kohli in the line-up, anything is possible from the Challengers, and he now has a great supporting cast to help him out. No matter where you look at their line-up, you will see quality. From the top order, into the big hitters in the middle order and finally the bowlers, the Challengers have it all and they should go very close in the 2018 IPL.
